- June - August - Students read 5 novels from the EBOB Reading List
- June - August - Students prepare a table for each of the five books they've read over the summer. Example of Table Students turn in these documents at the first meeting, Thursday, September 10, 2020, 2:45 - 3:45 in the school media center unless other plans are communicated to students and parents. Students MUST have reliable transportation. Students may be excused from try-outs if being picked up on time becomes an issue.
- In past years, school funds have paid for: transportation to EBOB Competition, Competition & Facility Use Fee, Lunches for Students and Coaches, and PTA purchased custom t-shirts for team.
- Families have provided snacks for meetings. (See snack suggestions). The only cost to students - books (This is optional - many books can be checked out online through the public library's website - NCKids.overdrive.com - availability is the only issue - We have copies for many of the titles in our General Greene library collection)
- September 10, 2020 - First Meeting: *Students submit EBOB Character Tables (5) - Beginning of the EBOB Tryout Process - Book Club Atmosphere with activities to help students learn details from books and authors' names and their proper pronunciation.
- September 10, 17, 24 / October 1, 8 - Weekly Meetings Preparing Students for Written Quiz Tryout & Mock Trial Tryout
- October 15th - Students will use meeting time to take written quiz with questions on ALL the books.
- October 22nd - Students participate in a mock competition to complete the tryout process.
- October 26th - Team Members Announced
- October 29th - First Team Meeting
- Between October 29 & Competition Date (Usually first week in March) there will a be approximately 15 practices! This allows us to focus on two novels each practice. We will try to order the practices with books that have many similarities. For example: Wish and Where the Watermelons Grow both have main characters who live in North Carolina and are dealing with parents who suffer from mental health issues. There will be questions at the competition that may make your wonder which book they are asking about. That is why we HAVE to know the details that can give us clues to better answer the questions asked at the competition.
- We will mix a little FUN into the meetings too! This year, Escape From Mr. Lemoncello's Library, lends itself to a fun escape room! (Whether it will be virtually or in a physical space, we don't know yet)
- Parents were allowed to attend the competiton on UNCG's campus for the 2020 EBOB Competiton. Parents entered the competition rooms if they were not filled to capacity. We will have more details as the year progresses.
- Parents who would like to volunteer to assist at an EBOB practice should contact Mrs. Collins.
